Alzheimer’s disease is the leading cause of dementia in the old people. Now a new research suggest that the main active substance of marijuana, the THC, seems to be able to stop the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) as well as prevents (AChE) induced amyloid peptide (A) aggregation, the key pathological marker of Alzheimer’s Disease. This study provides a previously unrecognized molecular mechanism through which endo and phyto cannabinoid molecules may directly impact the progression of this debilitating disease.
